The Splinter camouflage pattern was first introduced in 1931 and was used by the German Army and Luftwaffe ground units throughout World War II. 

The pattern was used to produce pull-over smocks, helmet covers, shelter quarters, custom made panzer uniforms, winter parkas, and also field caps. From 1940 until then end of the war there were various modifications made to the Splinter pattern. The most noticeable difference were the different shades of green, and brown used in the pattern.
