In 2023, the US Army is simultaneously in a period of transition and conflict. The two-decade War on Terror is winding down, but the Middle East stills beckons American attention. NATO needs the US Army to bolster its eastern flank, long-suffering Africa requires assistance against extremists and even in the Pacific, the realm of naval and air power, the army has a role to fulfill.
