Researched and written by Hilary Doyle, this completely revised edition of Panzer Tracts No.5-2 Panther Ausf.A is a significant step forward from the original 2003 publication. While the first edition was closely aligned with Panther Tank: The Quest for Combat Supremacy, this new 2025 edition stands as the most authoritative single-volume reference on the Panther Ausf.A ever published.
As with all Panzer Tracts titles, every page is grounded exclusively in original wartime documents, factory records, and meticulous examination of surviving vehicles. No speculation — just hard facts, carefully interpreted.
The book delivers an exhaustive analysis of Panther Ausf.A development, tracing its evolution from vehicles outwardly similar to the Ausf.D right through to the final Ausf.A assembled in July 1944. Within these pages is a complete chronology of design refinements, production-line changes, and field modifications — supported by tables, annotations, and previously misunderstood or overlooked factory documentation. A quick-reference summary table of all key changes is printed on the back cover for rapid access.
Whether you are a military historian, technical researcher, or scale modeller, this Panzer Tracts No.5-2 is an essential addition to any Panther library — and an indispensable tool in understanding the development of one of the most influential tanks of World War 2.

This is a great book, and part of a great series. I've been slowly--too slowly-- getting the whole series, and they are great for both the historian and the modeler, of which I am both. I consider this series to be one of the best parts of my library. Get 'em all--the long, the short and the tall!
