The Sherbrooke Fusilier Regiment was a Canadian armored regiment attached to the 2nd Canadian armored Brigade, which landed on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day in support of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division and then fought through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany until VE-Day. As an independent armored regiment, it was assigned to support various infantry formations. Following a short rest after fighting through France, it re-entered the fight in Belgium in support of the British 49th (West Riding) Division. The regiment then spent the winter of 1944-45 in the Nijmegen region before participating in the Battle of the Rhineland, and the subsequent capture of Xanten. The unit's tanks were the first Canadian tanks to cross the Rhine River and they assisted in the liberation of Holland. At the end of hostilities, the tanks of the regiment were established in Emden, Germany.
