As a 19 year old Doenitz joined the Imperial War Navy in 1910. By the first world war he was a submarine commander and during the Third Reich, Commander of the U-boats and then as successor Erich Raeder Commander in Chief of the German Navy. For his personal bravery he was awarded the Oak Leaves as Grand Admiral. With the evacuation of two million soldiers and refugees from East Prussia by sea, he enrolled in the book of history. Hitler appointed Doenitz his successor in May 1945, and he governed as Germany's late Reichprasident until arrsted by the British. He was sentenced in 1946 by the Nuremberg Tribunal winner to ten years' imprisonment, which he served at Spandau. This book features unique, large-scale, mostly any color images showing the life and work of this great German soldiers and patriots in the context of U-boat force and navy.
